Funding was recently approved to implement the state's diagnostic imaging quality assurance program, and you will provide leadership in program design and implementation. Utilizing existing quality assurance expertise and staff currently employed by NSH, you will work with the Diagnostic Imaging Zone Managers charged with ensuring DI equipment meets quality and safety standards across the province. The position will be based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and travel is expected to support locations across the province both during program development and to support device testing as required.
Key clinical tasks include:
- Performance evaluation of radiological imaging equipment and implementation of acceptance tests
- Performed protection calculations for facility design, assessing integrity and thickness of existing lead protection
- Provide radiation dose calculations and risk assessments for patients and staff
- Monitoring accreditation for mammography by CAR
- Assist in the selection of new devices in the RFP process and the development of new imaging applications and protocols
- Develop training requirements and competency assessment frameworks for quality assurance technologists
Academically, you will be employed as a lecturer in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Dalhousie University and provide teaching and supervision to CAMPEP-accredited MSc, PhD and certificate programs in Medical Physics. Enrollment in the program has quadrupled since accreditation in 2015 and includes nine graduate courses with work in areas such as new imaging guidance technology in radiotherapy, innovative approaches to arc therapy, development of new detectors, adaptive radiotherapy, improved methods of HDR dosimetry - brachytherapy and .etc Application of functional and molecular imaging in radiotherapy. Our medical physics department expects research from its faculty and provides resources, dedicated time, and internal funding for graduate students. You are expected to secure external research support in this regard.
