Jenn Neal on business motivation, values and attitudes

However, you know the people who are always happy. I said it was annoying but really I think it's just jealousy. I mean who doesn't want to be happy?

- Jenna Neal

I think we'll make a full glass together!

a few years ago,I had signed up for a business cruise. I took part in a group training program and thought I would surprise my husband.

But he didn't want to spend a lot of time with a bunch of enterprising nerds. So I asked my neighbor if she would like to be my Plus 1.

She is the kind of person who is ALWAYS happy. To an extent I did/found it... let's face it, I still find it irritating at times. 😊 (I love you Susi!)

As we took this trip to the Caribbean together, we realized that we have a lot in common and a lot of things that are completely opposites.

I remember that particular time sitting on the porch of our cabin, enjoying the sunshine and saltwater mist as the ship made its way across the ocean.

And we enjoyed some cocktails in the afternoon.

I teased Susie because she was always positive about things. I think it's also normal to hate things...

But it just doesn't work that way.

Our drinks were almost empty, so I offered Susie to fill them up:

"Your drink is half full, may I refill it?"

Susie replied in true Susie style...

"Or you could say my drink was half full"

I laughed and said that was the perfect explanation of how we worked together. Look, together it's like filling a glass!

Since that time I've often tried to be a glass half full rather than an empty glass guy.

However, you know the people who are always happy. I said it was annoying but really I think it's just jealousy. I mean who doesn't want to be happy? (I'm sure I'm still a work in progress, but let's go 2/3 full 😊)

Anyway, my guest in this episode is the same. She is always happy!

And she shares her secret to success in business through happiness and fulfillment - don't miss this episode with guest expert Cheri Yazzie.

types of business motivation

To be a successful entrepreneur, you not only need to be motivated, but in the right way. Additionally, effective motivation often consists of multiple reasons, not just one.

For example, just being driven by making money is not enough, there must also be underlying factors such as satisfying intrinsic interests and desires. Here are the top three types of business motivation that will help you succeed:

1. Money

It's no secret that people start businesses to make money. Inspirational stories about business giants like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates make ordinary people believe that if they have the right ideas, they too can become billionaires. Having money as your main motivation isn't a bad idea, but make sure you supplement it consistently.

2. Passion

A key part of entrepreneurial motivation is passion for the work you do. It is one of the most important drivers for business success all over the world. Passion creates an inexhaustible stamina to keep working towards your goals and to overcome any obstacles that come your way.

3. Control

Control is an essential aspect of company values, attitudes and motivations. When you are in charge of the business, you are responsible for the most important aspects of your organization such as hiring, salaries and senior management. The appetite and ability to run your business efficiently leads to success as an entrepreneur.

Factors influencing business motivation

Entrepreneurial motivation builds a person's confidence to achieve their goals. With motivation, your thought process can become more productive so you can engage with new ideas. The factors that influence motivation, values and entrepreneurial attitudes can be divided into internal and external categories:

internal The factor

This refers to the intrinsic drive to achieve your goals and achieve personal satisfaction. The five main types of internal factors are:

  • A positive attitude that allows you to find opportunities even in critical situations.
  • Optimism that leads to constructive thinking.
  • Enthusiasm to find optimal solutions.
  • The desire for independence and personal fulfillment.
  • Emotional commitment to achieving your goals.

External Factors

These relate to strengths from their external environment that shape entrepreneurial values, motivation and attitudes. Here are the top five external factors at play:

  • Availability of land, labor and capital.
  • High demand for your product can help you be more innovative.
  • Government guidelines to support new businesses.
  • Availability and acquisition of adequate knowledge of the market.
  • Technological development in the field to reduce errors and maximize success.

Ingredients for business success

Overcoming obstacles, learning from mistakes and moving forward is what makes a successful entrepreneur. However, to get these features, you need to keep a few things in mind:

Identify your target audience

Determining your target audience is essential to properly targeting your sales and marketing campaigns. Start by figuring out what type of people would have a need or interest in your product or service.

List the different characteristics of your offerings and consider who would find them useful. Another useful technique is to gather demographic information about your target audience in order to target your marketing efforts accordingly. Make sure you know what people care about and at what price they are willing to buy it.

to be one

Don't be afraid to be yourself when presenting your product or service. This gives personality to your brand and creates an emotional bond with potential customers.

It's okay if you can't put perfectly manicured images on your social media pages. Let your audience get a glimpse of the real person behind the company to make your brand more identifiable. Try marketing your products informally, using simple terms and including stories from your own life.

Enjoy What You Do: "Choose or Change"

Enjoying what you do helps a lot in having the right values, motivation and entrepreneurial spirit. Your positive vibes are sure to rub off on your customers, especially if you run a small business.

Take a take it or trade it attitude. If you think something doesn't feel right, switch to something else. Make sure all your marketing and production efforts are top notch, which is only possible when your heart is in your work.

final thoughts

Entrepreneurial values, motivations and attitudes are influenced by a number of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. They all need to be in harmony for you to be successful in your business. Keep your goals in mind and build resilience to overcome any obstacles along the way. Entrepreneurial motivation distinguishes a successful entrepreneur from one who is constantly moving from one failed venture to the next.
